New Year, New Us?🍾😱

Hello and happy 2022 fellow fun lovers! 🥳🥂🍾

Not going to lie, it's been a tough couple of years for a lot of us. Many of us have spent the majority of the last two years apart from friends and family in some type of isolation, going in and out of in-school learning, or on the 'front lines' as service workers (and if this is you, THANK YOU❤️). Not to mention those of us who have lost loved ones, which is absolutely devastating in its own right, let alone dealing with the stress of everything else that has been thrown at us since 2020. So, with all of that in mind, I would like to take this opportunity to talk to you about something that goes hand in hand with New Year's Eve...

Resolutions

There's no denying that the New Year is a great time to set resolutions, and I'm sure you've already seen about 100 articles on how to 'Make your New Year's resolutions stick' or '10 New Year's Resolutions everyone should make' - and if these speak to you, and you've made a bunch of resolutions, that's great!

But honestly, after the last two years, I think it's better to focus on what we've learned and how we've grown. Humans are strange animals, we spend A LOT of time being incredibly critical of ourselves, and completely disregarding our accomplishments and growth. I guarantee that if you sat down right now and made a list of everything you've learned and accomplished this past year, you'd be pleasantly surprised. Now I'm not talking about learning a new language, or being able to run a 5K (but if you did those things, very cool, congrats) - sometimes just getting out of bed or being nice to your annoying neighbour is enough and just as valid as the aforementioned accomplishments. After the year(s) we've all had, we need to appreciate the small day to day wins and be our own cheerleaders, especially those of us who are isolating in solitude.

So, if you don't have the energy this year for resolutions, that is completely fine and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. If you do have the energy, well then all the more power to you, as long as you don't beat yourself up if you slip up from time to time.

New Year New Us...?

As for Kris and I, this year we're focused on getting into better shape - not losing weight, but eating healthier, working out more often, and starting out the year with a dry (sober) January. In short, we're taking better care of ourselves this year, and part of that includes being patient with ourselves and taking time for self care.

If you're sick of hearing about self care you aren't alone - since the start of the pandemic everyone seems to be pushing for more and more self care which in theory is great, but for a lot of us that is easier said than done. I'm not talking about making sure you have time to meditate or draw yourself a bath or anything like that (but if you're able to do that, very cool). For most of us self care can be as simple as making time for the things YOU enjoy, even if its just 5 minutes out of your day. So what brings you joy and what is fun for you?

I'm not going to lie, sometimes just coming up with 'fun' things to do is exhausting - especially if you have an Instagram and blog dedicated to the subject.🤡 There is definitely a bit of pressure to have a constant stream of content for fellow fun-seekers. Not to mention trying to plan around constant travel and capacity restrictions...

So with that said, Kris and I have decided as part of our New Year's Resolutions we'll be resurrecting our Instagram account (@wehavefunofficial) and make a conscious effort to find the fun this coming year.🥳🤩

Luckily for me one of my dearest friends, who I was lucky enough to spend New Year's Eve with, gifted me a something which may help keep us inspired... Introducing: 'The Adventure Challenge: Couples Edition'! We're challenging ourselves to do one of the activities from this book once a week and see where we end up after completing all 30 challenges. Sounds easy enough... Right?? Sometimes you just need a little help to get the ball rolling, and Kris and I are excited to get started and see what the new year has in store!

So, what about you? Any resolutions? If so, we'd love to hear them! And while you're still here - has anyone ever done an adventure book before? We want to hear about your experience!

2021 wasn't easy on any of us, but here's to a brighter 2022.🥂
